Asher Falatic added to Smash Gyms Staff at Both Locations!

Asher is a certified athletic trainer and kettlebell instructor. He graduated with his Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from San Jose State University after moving from Ohio in 2009. While working as the assistant athletic trainer for the university’s football team he was exposed to kettlebells for the first time. Impressed by the challenging workouts kettlebells provided him, he quickly decided he wanted to be part of the cause. As a SFG I Kettlebell Instructor, Asher strives to work his clients hard and efficiently while implementing healthy lifestyle habits. Asher stays in shape by enjoying the outdoors through trail running and hiking. He continues to weight train and practice jujitsu.

A special congratulations to our awesome Kettlebell instructor Asher for getting his Masters thesis published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning!

Titled "The Effects of Kettlebell Training on Aerobic Capacity", Asher used Division 1 soccer players to show that 20 minutes of kettlebell snatching with 15 seconds of rest significantly increases maximal oxygen consumption. New Fitness Classes at Smash San Jose!

Fitness Classes have started at the East San Jose Smash! Beginning Monday 2/24/14  we will have a full schedule of new fitness classes in our brand new Evergreen & East San Jose location! Strength & Conditioning classes will be at 5:30pm and 7:30pm throughout the week. We will also have our popular total body fitness bootcamps at 6:30pm Monday-Thursday. Both classes are very popular for all fitness levels and age groups!

Our fitness classes at Smash are like group personal training sessions! You don't need to wander around gym wondering what you should do. You will have instructors pushing your fitness to the next level. All of our instructors are certified professionals personal trainers!

Get Strong at Smash!

Our beginner friendly Strength & Conditioning Classes are taught by highly qualified certified trainers. Our trainers take a systematic and comprehensive approach to fitness. We understand that everyone has different goals and our trainers do everything we can to guarantee your success. In our program you will learn how to workout in way that gets results! In addition to getting in shape this program has a heavy focus on strength training and muscle gains. You will learn proper Olympic lifting technique with a very beginner friendly approach. Additionally participants will get an education on diet, fat loss and conditioning direction. You will get stronger and faster and gain lean muscle mass as you lose fat. The goal of this program is to help you reach your athletic potential. Instructors will closely monitor your progress and help you along your fitness journey. 

Functional Strength!

Our total body fitness Bootcamps are circuit training classes designed to burn calories and fat! Your cardiovascular endurance will see huge improvement in this class as you tone and sculpt your body into a functional fitness machine! There is no boredom here as with traditional exercise programs. The Smash Boot Camp staff ensures each participant does each exercise correctly each and every time. They know how to keep everyone moving with a smile on their face. Everyone is dedicated to getting you to your goal and will help make every aspect lead you there. Burn calories, build strength, and increase your coordination all in one class! The hour passes by quickly because of the timed stations, unique and fun exercises, awesome partners, and encouraging instructors! This class incorporates challenging workout stations designed to push anyone to the next level! You get an intense overall workout while allowing you to progress at your own pace. A winning and fun combination of aerobic, weight training, and body weight exercises like you've never seen!

Weekends full of BJJ and Weightlifting Competitions!

A few weeks ago, Sam Jung represented Smash Gyms at the East Bay Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Open.  Sam put on a great performance and placed 1st in the gi division and 3rd in the no gi division.  That same weekend, Jonathan Bialoglovski competed in the Calfornia Black Belt League: Victory Challenge and place 1st in his division.

Then this past weekend, Christina Apatow represented Smash Gyms Women's BJJ and competed in the KO Finisher Series Submission Only Tournament.  With no competitors to go against in her division, Christina moved up 2 weight classes. She did awesome and placed 3rd.  Christina finished two of her matches by armbar and gi choke.  The most memorable moment was when her opponent refused to tap to the gi choke and ended up being put completely unconscious.

While Christina was competing in BJJ, Smash Gyms' Strength & Conditioning instructor, James Cebedo, competed in the Redwood Empire Weightlifting Competition.  James threw up some big weight and placed 2nd in his division despite only weighing 157lbs in the 170lbs division! This was James' first weightlifting competition so he decided not to cut any weight and still took home a silver medal!

New Strength & Conditioning Instructors making noise at Smash!

Smash Gyms Strength & Conditioning Program has grown rapidly in the last six months because of our awesome instructors. If you take this class you DO NOT need personal training. Our certified personal trainers and veteran instructors strive to help each member of the program reach their fitness potential. You will get stronger and faster if you come to our classes. Our members have seen amazing progress in their fitness level. This beginner friendly class has a strong focus on safety and performance results!

Below are some highlights of just a few of our members amazing progress. Many others have also seen amazing results.

When Joe Silveria first started he couldn't do a pull up. Now he can do 12 pull ups! His deadlift went from  255lbs to 475lbs!

Debbie Sanchez was not able to do one pull up. Now she can do 3! She can now overhead squat her body weight. She can also clean and jerk 115lbs!

Prathap Muthana doubled his squat! When he started the program he could squat only 95lbs. Now he can do over 205lbs!

Sherry He could only dead lift 75lbs 5x when she first started. Now she can deadlift 145lbs 5 times!

Bertilla Meow could only deadlift 113lbs and is now up to 173lbs!

16 year-old Ibrahim Elsakka has seen amazing improvement as well. His deadlift increased from 113lbs to 315lbs!

His squat 175lbs to 225lbs; Front Squat 135 to 210lbs; and 400m run from :74 seconds  to :69 seconds.
